Basic Chocolate Ice Cream
Last night, Chris and I made ice cream!
We used this recipe, and altered it a bit.
*You need an ice cream maker for this recipe*
Whatcha Need:
1 can sweetened condensed milk
1/2 cup unsweetened coco powder
3 cups half & half
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
*you can add whatever you want to this, we added peanut butter cups*
How to do it:
In a medium saucepan over low heat, cook and stir condensed milk and cocoa until smooth and slightly thickened, 5 minutes. Remove from heat, and allow cooling slightly. Stir in half & half, and vanilla. Refrigerate until cold
Pour mixture into the canister of an ice cream maker, and freeze according to manufacturer's directions & add whatever you want.
This recipe was cheap & easy. We'll probably be doing this more often!
Considering that the original recipe had about 260 calories per serving, I think ours had considerably less. We cut out the heavy & light cream completely, and replaced it with half & half. We used valrhona cocoa powder, which gave it a richness that I doubt we would have gotten with Hershey's. It was really good! If you have an ice cream maker, I recommend you start using it!

I'd never leave the house if I made my own ice cream...at least i get SOME exercise walking from the car to the market while picking up some Ben and Jerry's! :)
